Post-black metal is a subgenre of black metal that emerged in the late 1990s and early 2000s, characterized by its experimental approach to the traditional elements of black metal, and its incorporation of elements from other genres such as post-rock, shoegaze, and ambient music.
It’s known for its atmospheric and emotive soundscapes and its introspective and often personal lyrics. These black metal bands frequently use unconventional song structures and unconventional instrumentation, such as the use of clean vocals, keyboards, and electronic music elements, to create a more experimental and dynamic sound.
The production of post-black metal is also regularly characterized by its use of reverb and echo effects, giving it a more ethereal and atmospheric feel. It has seen a significant rise in popularity and influence recently.
