**Celestial Silence** fosters a captivating blend of the melodic and melancholic. Taking elements from several black metal sub-genres (DSBM, Atmospheric, and Melodic) and infusing it with post-black influences.

Opening with *Crippled Solitude* , a beautiful instrumental track, the album progresses into layers of droning, mournful riffs with F*ading Time*. Building atmospheres like snowdrifts behind the shrill, almost wailed vocals.

Offering small reprieves and subtle nuances within the despair, the band layers melodic acoustic passages, string sections and clean vocals.

*Silent Calls From the Other Side* is haunting and even beautiful at times. Its lyrics are gripping, poetic and full of melancholy. That being said, the album is short and offers little to no variation within it's formula. The middle section of the track *Dismal Gleam* being the most stand out moment for me on the album.

It's a cohesive listen and has some subtle moments that shine. Hoping with future releases to hear some more variation though. The opening instrumental track was quite well done and it would be awesome to hear some more of that melodic influence within the songs themselves.

## Conclusion

Depressive and cold. With an atmosphere as bleak as the dead of winter. As a debut album it's promising. It has some interesting concepts, and cool riffs. The album is more akin to DSBM than any of its other influences, fans of the genre will surely enjoy it.

**BMZ Rating: 5,5 out of 10**
