## Introduction

German Post black metal juggernauts **Der Weg Einer Freiheit** dive further into the recesses of the soul on their 6th release Innern.

## Rumination

At this point I’m sure **Der Weg...** probably doesn’t need much introduction to regular BMZ readers. The German quarter has been consistently releasing sick release after sick release since 2009\. Throughout each release you can tell these dudes have been sharpening the blade so to speak in terms of what they want to say and how they want to sound, this release is no exception and develops on from the more post punk vibe of their 2021 effort ***Noktvrn.***

Everything you’d hope for in terms of a **Der Weg Einer Freiheit** record is on display here. Amazing atmospheres, unparalleled riffs, incredible vocals. The band also once again showcases their penchant towards cleaner, more pensive sounds.

As a personal aside, with the exception of *Bergtatt*, I have never really liked clean vocals in any form of metal whatsoever (in particular black metal). I can’t say I really fuck with the clean vocals here either but honestly I get it. When you examine what these songs are about and how **Der Wegs..** writing has matured over the years I fully understand how just shrieking all the time can feel like you’re stuck in black metal trope jail and aren’t actually able to say what you want to say as a person.

**Much respect to them carving their own path and saying fuck off to anyone who has a problem with it.**

## Conclusion

In the same way that a band like **Downfall of Gaia** has shit I dont like about them (whilst simultaneously being one of my favourite modern bands) **Der Weg Einer Freiheit** is definitely the same.

Not everything about this record was for me, but when it’s good I shit you not, they outrank a lot of modern bands, the opening three tracks in particular on this one are stellar.
