First and foremost, I would like to mention that the album from start to finish, is incredibly well written and does not feel, nor sound, like a debut release. The instrumentation, lyrics, overall production, fit, and finish are top-notch.

The lyrics are profoundly deep, nihilistic, and poetic in nature. There are so many passages throughout this album that left me speechless.

> *And woe kneeled, for his place among*
> *those sworn was cast.*
> *Sullen eyes told of an arrival, set forlorn*
> *In ash.*
> *For beneath tensile zeal, withered*
> *Bronze-armor was sat.*
> *Corroded to cinders and decaying to*
> *Matte.*
> *Longing to everlast, though coated in*
> *Dust.*
> *The fabric of starlights vigor collapsed*
> *In upon us.*

## Prevenient

Such beautifully written prose such as this is a rare occurrence and welcome surprise in black metal. I love when bands reach deeper than the usual surface for lyrical content/inspiration. Especially in our genre, as the tried and true topics have become a bit cliché and dare I say repetitive over the years. The human condition is wrought with its darkness and when looking inward, there is an equal amount of horror, sorrow, and despair to be found.

The guitar and, surprisingly, the bass (the track *Eden* features some awesome bass riffs) throughout the album are very well crafted. The overall guitar tone is to be commended and achieves an aggressive yet melodic sound. So many well-crafted riffs that befit the genre, building atmosphere and darkness that complement the extraordinary lyrics.

My favorite riff from the album, and probably my favorite track, is *Horizontal Ambient Cry*.
The intro riff on this track is so catchy, and melodic, all the while maintaining an icy feel. I found myself listening to this one on repeat.

## Conclusion

I was pleasantly surprised whilst listening to this album. It's a master class in modern atmospheric black metal. Blending excellent production, beautiful lyrics, and catchy riffs. All the while staying true to form. Would highly recommend this album, especially to fans of **mgla**.
