## Introduction

Gravplåga emerged from Linköping, Sweden in 2025, the solitary vision of musician Malignant Desecrator. Gravplåga translates to something like "grave torment," a fitting banner for a project built on cold, patient dread. The project's debut EP, “Maliferous Portents”, set the stage: raw, unpolished second-wave worship, more concerned with atmosphere than spectacle.

## Veneration of Chaos

Track Listing:

1. Awakening of the Chaos Trident
2. Gravplåga
3. Vengeance of Steel and Brimstone
4. Unmerciless Death
5. Heretical Eldritch Tyranny
6. Miasmic Inhaltion of the Bloodgate Scepter

Enter “Veneration of Chaos”, Gravplåga's debut full-length album. Across six tracks and roughly thirty-five minutes, the record plays like a single invocation. The opening track "Awakening of the Chaos Trident" sets a tone of primordial disorder before the eponymous "Gravplåga" arrives second in the sequence, harsh and central, like the project's own name being carved into stone. "Vengeance of Steel and Brimstone", my personal favorite track, pushes the tempo with some very melodic riffing, while closer "Miasmic Inhalation of the Bloodgate Scepter" stretches out into something more patient, letting frostbitten tremolo lines and a genuinely cold, unpolished production do the talking rather than technical showmanship.

Thematically, the album reaches further back than the genre's usual grievances, framing itself as reverence for the formless chaos that preceded any ordered reality, bloodlust and the awakening of ancestral forces treated as ritual rather than shock value. The cover art, handled by Indonesian illustrator Yoga Pranata, extends that same conceptual weight onto the sleeve.

## Conclusion

"Veneration of Chaos" doesn't reinvent the second-wave so much as kneel before it, and that's precisely the point. What Gravplåga lacks in polish, it makes up for in genuine, unhurried conviction. It's not a flashy record, but it's a confident one for a debut, and it sets up Gravplåga as a project worth following. ⚔️

BMZ Rating: 7.5/10
