## Introduction

Hailing from the dark underbelly of Eastern Europe, Polish black metal entity Pusta Noc derives its name from the Slavic ritual of the "Empty Night", the mournful vigil kept over a corpse before burial. Having released an EP in 2024 and their debut full length "Speculo Magicas" in 2025, that band has returned with their sophomore offering.

​The album’s narrative hinges on the infamous 2022 discovery in Pień, Poland: a 17th-century woman unearthed with a sickle across her throat and a padlock on her toe to prevent her return. Pusta Noc uses this historical relic to weave a tale of ancient paranoia, posing a simple, terrifying question: what if the wards fail?

​Musically, "Funus Vampyri" abandons frantic blast beats for mid-tempo, hypnotic dread. Shimmering, melancholic guitar riffs echo the biting cold of a Polish winter, weaving atmospheric folk horror directly into the music. The production strikes an ideal balance, raw enough to smell the turning soil, yet clear enough for the melodic leadwork to slice through like rusted iron. Over this bleak backdrop, harsh, throat-shredding vocals act as the village narrator, delivering a performance steeped in genuine despair rather than theatrical camp. It is a suffocating atmosphere that fits the lyrical theme perfectly. 

## Conclusion 

By fusing genuine historical folk horror with atmospheric black metal, Pusta Noc has crafted a bleak, compelling masterpiece. It stands as a chilling reminder that while flesh rots and iron rusts, the fear of what lies beneath the earth and beyond the grave never truly fades.
