Review: Svdestada – Candela

Band: Svdestada
Album: Candela
Country: Spain
Genre: Black Metal/Crust Punk
Label: independent

Remember the last time you listened to a new album, and it took you by surprise? Well, that is what happened when I listened to the new album Candela by Spanish Svdestada.

As you’re all aware of, there are a lot of black metal or blackened bands out there, and it’s impossible to know all of them. That was also the case with this band. We got a request for a review, and they described themselves as crust punk/black metal, that combo piqued my interest.

So what about the album? The new album was released on the 5th of January and contains 7 new tracks. It has a run time of 33 minutes, and those minutes fly by rapidly. The first track of the album, “Nudo” has a nice build up, but as soon as the vocals kick in the track goes into overdrive. The drums sound great and I really like the fast-paced tempo the track has (this goes for the entire album).

What really surprised me, is how well the album/music is put together, Crush Punk is not something I listen to (I am familiar with it though), but this album feels more like a blackened hardcore album than a blackened crust punk album, and that’s a good thing (for me at least). I like the fast-paced Hardcore, and that mixed with Black Metal influences makes for a great combo.

The last track of the album, “Candela” is the longest track of the album with a runtime of almost 12 minutes. Which on an album that’s 33 minutes long in total is a big chunk of said runtime. But this track is my favorite track of the album. It has a lot of depth to it, with fast-paced parts and some more mid-tempo sections. All the lyrics of the album are in Spanish (those are available on Bandcamp, for example), but the vocals on the album tell a story even if you don’t understand what the words mean.

Who should listen to this album? Well, everyone should give it a try. But if you are into music that just goes and keeps going, this band is for you. Like I said, the album took me by surprise, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. You can give the album a listen below (by clicking on the YouTube video) and if you like it, don’t forget to buy the album.
