Introduction
Today's review sees us gazing into an industrial sludge filled nightmare courtesy of Belgium’s angriest new atmospheric black metal band. Drawn Into Descent.

Rumination
On Onrust, the Belgian outfit's 3rd LP, Drawn Into Descent, they take their sound into weirder and darker territory. Less emphasis is given to the more melodic side of things to present music that's as bleak and harrowing as the album cover.
Tracklist:
1. Teloorgang
2. Drenkeling
3. Onrust
4. Ogen
So this is honestly a pretty unique album the further you go. The opening has this kind of unique stomp metal vibe with sad riffs (overall pretty fun; the drums get a bit too disco for me, but yeah).
But Track 2 and onwards seems to get into almost Furia territory, with this really unique swaggering riff/drum combo that goes into a really sick blast section. The track really hits the spot for me overall.
One thing about this album and band is (and this probably equally comes from watching the video for the 3rd track, Onrust). But they actually seem like they aren’t scared of taking risks with the sh*t they make.
The video for track 3 is a type of artsy I very much appreciate, and the song that goes along with it is really solid, especially where it sits on the track order. It’s just expansive and sad in a way that offers a unique counterpoint to the noxious misery of the other tracks.
Album wise when this band takes a shot at doing something different and it pays off, it is really f*cking good. Genuine artistry on display, honestly. I have to give special credit to the vocal performance; the singer (B?) is truly feral sounding in a way that I like, and the way the voice works in this context is really sick.
One final note I will make is, as someone who lives in a big smog covered city, outside of something maybe like White Ward, I really cant think of many black metal bands have tackled just how claustrophobic and and depressing that feeling is as accurately as Drawn Into Descent does on this album.
Conclusion
In a sea of bands all rushing to push out more and more “trad worship” nostalgia throwbacks in 2026, anything that tries to do something unique is deeply appreciated. This record is a great example of that, and I look forward to seeing where Drawn goes from here on out.
If you f*ck with the weirder side of atmospheric black metal that brings in post hardcore or sludge. I thoroughly recommend this album.
BMZ Rating: 8.5/10
