Introduction
Drudensang is a German black metal band known for conjuring haunting soundscapes steeped
in Alpine mysticism, Teutonic folklore, and raw atmospheric intensity. Emerging from the depths
of Bavaria, Drudensang fuses traditional black metal ferocity with archaic melodies and
ritualistic ambiance, invoking the spectral presence of forest spirits, ancient rites, and the
shadows of old Europe.
Originally formed in 2013, the band evolved from its predecessor, Ravnsvart, which existed from
2010 to 2013.
The band’s name, Drudensang, combines “Drude,” a witch-like creature from Bavarian folklore,
and “Sang,” an old German word meaning “curse” or “chant”.
The current lineup consists of:
Krámpn – Vocals, Bass
Lemarchant – Lead Guitar
Percht – Rhytm Guitar
Henker – Keys
Nefastus – Drums

From the opening moments of the title track Geysterzvvang, the listener is enveloped in a
dense, spectral haze. Drudensang utilizes raw, lo-fi textures reminiscent of classic second-wave
black metal, but there’s something uniquely unsettling in their approach: layers of reverb-
drenched guitars twist around mournful tremolo lines, and the drumming feels ritualistic, less
about precision and more about evoking a trance.
The vocals are delivered in a strangled, almost incantatory tone, often in an archaic dialect that
lends a sense of timelessness. This is music not just to listen to, but to witness. The whispered
chants and sudden howls feel like transmissions from another realm.
The track “VVydargaenger” (“wraith/revenant”) features haunting clean passages that contrast sharply with the violent blasts, creating a tension between serenity and savagery. “Hoellenkunst
im brennend Aether” (Hell’s Art in Burning Aether) might be the most dynamically rich song on
the EP, and my personal favorite, moving between fury and funereal melancholy like a fever
dream.
Drudensangs lyrical focus is truly what sets them apart for me. This isn’t generic Satanism or
some vague form of nihilism. It’s steeped in regional folklore. The band explores forgotten
Alpine traditions, invoking the “Drude” (a nightmarish witch-spirit), revenants, pagan death
rituals, and tales whispered in mountain villages. It’s rare for black metal to so successfully
blend ethnographic authenticity with musical extremity.
The use of old German and Bavarian dialects adds tremendously to the overall atmosphere of
the music. You don’t need to understand every word; the mood transcends language.
The production on Geysterzvvang straddles rawness and clarity. Unlike many modern black
metal acts who polish their sound to sterility, Drudensang maintains a murky, naturalistic
ambiance, yet you can still pick out instrumental details. The guitar tone is caustic but organic,
like branches scraping across stone.
Conclusion:
With Geysterzvvang, Drudensang doesn’t just deliver black metal, they summon a world. This
EP feels like a lost folktale passed down in smoke-filled taverns, half-remembered and fully
feared. It’s not an easy listen, nor is it meant to be. It demands attention, contemplation, and
perhaps even ritual
BMZ Rating: 10 – Masterpiece: A flawless and groundbreaking work. This album redefines its genre with unmatched creativity and excellence. It’s a classic, influential, and timeless masterpiece.
