Rumination
On Ghostigmatah, Esoctrilihum captures the essence of fucked up madness that made the original wave of one man black metal like Leviathan so sick. The whole thing is deeply unhinged and immersive into it’s insane world. The song writing’s great, production sounds solid (with a special mention having to go to the weird but sick drum sound).
The things I dont really fuck with I honestly don’t even feel mad about because I get those parts aren’t for me. The thing that always appealed to me about one man band home recording projects (and in particular those who operate in black metal) is because it’s so isolated from the rest of the music scene and any sort of pretense as to how it should sound or feel which means the end result is usually something deeply unique and personal. Noone’s trying to get an opening slot at a festival doing rehashed 2nd wave riffs, noone is trying to get enough clout in their band to try and get pussy from the chicks in their local scene. It’s literally one soul trying to put their apocalyptic visions into the world for other similar minded people to latch onto and feel like there’s someone else in this retarded world dealing with the same shit as you.
This record is a perfect example of that, it has such a defined no bullshit personality. I truly believe the guy who made this doesn’t give a fuck about anything other than expressing himself which is absolutely the most black metal thing about it.
Conclusion
Anyone wanting to sink their teeth into some truly unique and powerful one man black metal should definetly check this out. One of the more interesting new DSBM projects that gets exactly what made the original projects right.
