Review: Flaming Ouroboros - The Tear

N.O. likes his BM like his coffee, pitch black, unfiltered and with a bitter after taste of some medieval metal. Check out his review of Flaming Ouroboros latest demo here.

Rumination

So this one is coming to you all honestly five months too late but I 100 percent needed to write about it before the years over. 2025 has seen the return of medieval black metaller Flaming Ouroboros on their latest demo The Tear

I first came across them on their 2023 debut LP Anthems for Brotherhood, which while at the time was interesting with its mix of anthemic riffs and lo-fi production didn’t really “hit” for me anywhere near what this tape does.

On This 24 minute demo release Majesty Ouro creates some of the most pensive and vibey sounding black metal this year. There’s not a single dull moment on this tape to be found. This is the shit you listen to at night when you’re mid campaign on the conquest of other nations, this is for the dark hours ruminating upon the deepest realms of man’s existence.

The album invokes such a deep sense of sadness and triumph, the burden of duty and the constant need for spiritual affirmation in the midst of periods of time that stand to break the spirit of man into a million pieces.

Sound/vibe wise, probably the best way to describe what this release falls under is the current wave of melodic war themed black metal (I.e Vothana/Departure Chandelier/Compatriot). That sort of sound has sprouted to popularity recently and i’m all the fuck for it.

Conclusion

The release fucking rips and  this project is 10 times cooler and vibier than most shit that calls itself medieval black metal.

I couldn’t recommend something much higher than I am with The Tear, deeply fulfilling release.

Also if you were lucky enough to catch them with Departure Chandelier a couple months ago comment underneath this with some videos please, I’m pissed I missed them and I’ve gotta see how cool this shit was live.
