Introduction

Skjønnhet is an Indonesian black metal project that blends atmospheric, nature-inspired music with environmental themes. Founded by Donny Andrean in 2022, the project takes its name from the Norwegian word for “beauty,” reflecting its focus on the natural world and humanity’s impact on it.

The Single

Following up from 2024's full length album Wander Above the Woods of Fog, which if you havent already heard I implore you to go give it a listen, Skjønnhet has delivered a new single featuring our editor and vocalist for Ulvhedner, Bjørnar. Sailing into the Drowning Horizon, continues where the last album left off. Steady tremolo picked riffs and minimalistic, moody melodies that emphasize reflection over speed or technical showmanship. Lyrically, it again deals with environmental collapse and human responsibility, portraying nature as something under threat rather than a distant symbol or lyrical backdrop. Bjørnar's vocals provide a welcome contrast while keeping the overall mood subdued. The track exemplifies Skjønnhet’s style, straightforward, atmospheric black metal paired with a clear ecological message, making it both engaging musically and thoughtful in its themes. I was disappointed upon hearing that there wasn't an album coming directly on the tail with it. But I'm extremely hopeful as there is rumors of a 2026 full length release.

BMZ Rating: 8 out of 10
