Introduction
The Magus doesn't need an introduction if we are honest; he's been around since the dawn of black metal and left his mark on the Greek black metal scene. But for those that don't know, here we go… just kidding, you can look that up on Metal Archives. Just know that The Magus is, for me at least, one of the pillars of the Greek black metal scene, and when he releases a new album, I listen.
Daemonosophia
The new album, Daemonosophia, was released on the 20th of February via the label The Circle Music. It features 10 songs, with the 5th song being a Thou Art Lord cover.
Tracklisting:
- Pater Noster
- Pseudoprophetae
- Daemonosophia
- The Six in Three Is All One
- The Era of Lucifer Rising (Thou Art Lord cover)
- Magia Obscura
- Amelia
- The Chapel of Iniquities
- The Pact
- La Llorona Negra
The album starts with Pater Noster, which is an intro in the form of a prayer. Prayers give me the ick, but I must say it's a good intro for the rest of the album because Pseudoprophetae starts off fast and furious and is really the opposite of the first track.
The previous album was great, but this album, for me, is even better; it's more to the point, and there are more numbers that just go from start to finish. Of those tracks, the 8th one is The Chapel of Iniquities.
It starts off great, with pummeling drums, some screams, and guitars that build up atmosphere, and for me, this is what this entire album is about. And if I could only pick one track to convince you, as the reader, to listen to this album, it would be this one.
Conclusion
I could go on and on about this album and The Magus, but this album is just a continuation of the previous album, and in a good way; for me, it's even a step up. If you like The Magus, Necromantia or Greek black metal in general, you won't be disappointed by giving this a spin.
BMZ rating: 8.5 out of 10
