Rumination
Across 5 tracks the band covers a lot of ground sonically on Rituel : Initiation. The best way I could describe this release is if you took the melodic vocals of alcest, added in some atmospheric black vibes and then threw in a bunch of ISIS style post metal. You’d be getting sort of close to the sound.
Production wise the album's solid, the guitar tone in particular has a good crunchy dryness to it that works well for the post metal vibe of it all.
Theme wise this band seems to lean into the holy mountain transcendental cult vibe which is fun. It honestly reminds me of Esoctrilihum in terms of being deeply informed by some kind of personal occultism/spirituality. It’s one of those things that if I tried to explain it I would sound like a retard but if you listen/look at the artwork you’d get what it's saying and doing.
I honestly wasn’t thinking about that aspect much when listening to this, what really stood out here is that this album is full of some deeply impressive songwriting. Everything is well put together and appeals to a lot of the sort of stuff I like.
I’m sure if i did a deep enough dive on this band that the whole album would reveal itself to be even cooler than it seems now, but as it is I’ve spun this album enough times to want to buy the cd. I dont really have much I can say beyond its just a really well put together release that I enjoyed from start to finish.
Also I have to credit this band with how they do the ancient pagan chanting stuff. I legit can't stand shit like Heilung but this band does the whole traditional chant vibe in a way that works well and doesn't feel like the Lion King soundtrack.
Conclusion
If you’re in the mood for something unique vibe-wise that has a lot of personality to it, I would give this band a listen.
BMZ Rating: 7.5/10
