Introduction
Man sometimes writing these reviews can get pretty lame when you psyche yourself to check out a new album only to get sent something that is kinda dogsh*t that you spend a good 20 minutes checking out before hitting the stop button and throwing away the whole review.
However, if you decide “hey nah I still want to do some writing tonight, i’ll just check the next album on the list, sometimes you’ll be a release that makes up for it that you're actually stoked to talk about. Which is how we now end up at our latest review, A Caress of Autumn for All the Lost by italian one man project Marea.

Rumination
This release is the 2nd LP from Matteo Balzarini’s project Marea. The project seems to be juggling a few ideas in a way that they’re really solid at doing. On this release you get this mixture of melancholic DSBM songwriting with a lot of decent Alcest style vibes and some early death doom stuff. There’s honestly a fair bit happening here but It’s honestly a testament to how good the songwriting is. The project really seems to understand what its doing and the vibe its going for and can make sense of all the movin parts.
Vibewise something about this album really works for me, I think the one man band aspect done well is honestly just some of the tightest shit to me. When you have absolutely zero constraints and a single mans vision putting together this stuff, its really easy for it to sound all over the place. The fact there’s so much refinement on what’s going on while still having a fair bit of variety is really damn good. But beyond the fact it actually has a vibe to it and carries so much relatable emotional depth without becoming a sludge of ideas is f*cking cool.
Worth mentioning aswell is how well all the acoustic and subtle orchestration is, it doesn't feel over the top and really adds a lot to the songs.
Also I won’t lie, anyone whose read these reviews know im not a clean singing fan, but this dude really does it well. The lyrics have a dsbmish heaviness to them that works well with the vibe of the album and it doesn’t feel tacky.
Conclusion
So if you’re reading this, thanks to you Marea for saving the evening with this album, In a sea of ambitionless drum machine raw bm you’ve put together something really impressive and I really hope you get credit for how solid a listen this album is.
BMZ Rating: 8/10
