Review: Murk - Battlefields of Destiny

Murk - Battlefields of Destiny (8.5/10) Black metal from Italy. With Battlefields of Destiny, Murk bypasses modern production polish entirely, opting instead for a suffocating, gravel-raw atmosphere. It’s a relentless exhibition of old-school black metal malice. Read more!

Introduction

Murk is a one man Black Metal Band hailing from Florence, Italy. The band was created in 2007 amongst the ruins of Abracadabra by Lorenzo Bellia. Since then Lorenzo kept himself busy with "Battlefields of Destiny" being the 4th full lenghth record for Murk, among other bands he worked on.

Battlefields of Destiny

Tracklist:

  1. Lunar Spear
  2. Battlefields of Destiny
  3. I Conquer My Soul
  4. Poisoning Realities
  5. Iron Faith
  6. Eternal Glory
  7. I Will Return

"Lunar Spear" is a really great start to the Album with Vocals pushed to the max with pure aggression. Even withe the aggression behind it , the music itself is really nice and melodic with pretty great riffing , reminesent of Venom with some Immortal harmonies. Being the first song it really does its job and got me hooked for more.

The title track is one of the best on this LP. Groovy triplets with awesome lead playing. Same uncompromised vocals and pure madness.

"I conquer my souls" is my personal favourite. Personally i really like if the verses rhyme with each other. For reference , when i listened to it the second time, i already remembered the lyrics.

The last song is the perfect closing track for an Album like that, melancholic leads open the song befor that harmony turns into tremolo picking induced speed metal riffing. The best part ... it ends with I will return and I'am excited for that return.

Conclusion

A really solid record from a band that i have not heard of before but one that turned me into a fan. Cretive riffing, great compositions and really solid vocals. Outstanding Job Lorenzo!
