Introduction

Noir Sire is a new one man black metal project from France founded by Efnys Yersina, former member of Hindvir. Twenty years later, he returns with a brand of black metal driven by crushing rhythms, razor-sharp leads, and a dark, aggressive identity.

Upon the Svlfvr Path

Track Listing:

  1. The Fallen Lie
  2. Relentless
  3. Where I End
  4. Upon the Svlfvr Path
  5. No Horizon

The album leans heavily into the second-wave for inspiration. Its raw and aggressive, while still maintaining melodic tendencies and a higher standard of production. It certainly isnt reinventing the wheel, but I dont think that was the intention. Rather to craft high quality black metal, and thats exactly what this is.

The French have knack for creating melodic black metal. The scene as a whole id say personally is one of the strongest at the moment. So many great bands/albums have come to us from France over the last couple of years. That being said Noir Sire doesnt fall short of this.

The opening track "The Fallen Lie" wastes no time hooking us in with some groovy, mid-tempo riffs and waste little to no time setting the tone for the EP.

"Relentless" follows up with a bit more of a traditional second-wave sound, very reminiscent of early Dissection.

The latter half the EP is where Noir Sire really shines. Its excellent second-wave worship, "Where I End" and the title track are my perosnal favorites. The vocal performace across the EP is extremely well done and probably my favorite part about the album aside the catchy riffs.

Conclusion

The album as a whole definitely has the hallmarks of a veteran of the scene. The production straddles the line of perfection, just between raw agression and modern clarity. Melodic riffs weave a tapestry around nihilistic lyrics and presence. If you like Melodic Black Metal that still has a bite, quality production, and catchy riffs I highky suggest keeping your sights on Noir Sire. Go check out the single "Upon the Svlfvr Path".
