Introduction
Wizards Altar is the solo black metal project of Ömer Doğramacı. Aside from a landslide of singles, and EPs "Delusions in Fire" appears to be the projects singuler full length release.

"Immortality in Fire" opens the album on a tremolo riff that doesn't let up, and the pacing across the next three tracks, "Screams from Invisible Souls," "Revelation of Nonexistence," and "Self-Creation", never really slows down either. The song titles alone map out a pretty clear obsession: annihilation, absence, the self destruction and resurrection. It's a small, tight thematic arc for a five-track record, and the writing backs it up. There are real riffs here, not just walls of tremolo, the kind that shift key or tempo right when a track starts to wear out its welcome. Nothing here overstays its welcome, and none of it feels padded out to hit an arbitrary runtime.
The problem is the mix. It's thin, genuinely, distractingly thin even for "raw" black metal. The guitars buzz somewhere in the upper register with almost nothing underneath them, the drums get flattened into a dry patter that disappears the second the guitars kick back in, and the vocals sit so far back in the mix they start to feel like an afterthought rather than a second instrument. None of that is a songwriting problem. It's a mixing-board problem, and it's the kind that keeps a genuinely strong record from landing the way it should. This is raw black metal doing everything right on the compositional side and then getting undercut at the boards.
Conclusion
“Delusions in Fire” is worth hearing, thin mix and all, the riffs carry it, and the closing title track ties the record's fixation on fire and self-erasure together better than most bands manage in twice the runtime. But it's hard not to imagine a version of this album with even a slightly less compressed, less buried mix, because what's underneath the murk here is good enough to deserve one. Here's hoping the next release gets it.
