The Infernal Records: Short Reviews (Volume 1)

Here at BMZ we take a lot of pride in searching the underground for hidden gems, as well as reviewing the more obvious stuff. But at the end of the day, the amount of awesome releases every week far out weighs our capacity to review them. We wish we could write full-length reviews for all the amazing albums we stumble across, but there is simply just too many. This is an attempt to cover some albums we've come across in a shorter form, while still shedding some light on them. We're hoping to make this into a recurring article as well so stay tuned.

Band: Verikaste
Album: Vernvirta
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Finland
Label: Independent
Released: June, 2025

Verikaste Album Artwork

Verikaste's debut EP "Verenvirta", released June 12, 2025, delivers five lean tracks of Finnish black metal from vocalist Raaka and drummer Varjo. Varjo's galloping double-bass drumming drives a sound that recalls early-2000s Dark Fortress; it's raw but controlled enough to let the riffs cut through. The cover twists Akseli Gallen-Kallela's 1897 painting of Lemminkäinen's mother pulling her son's body from the river of Tuonela into something bloodier, a fitting nod to a title that essentially means "river of blood." At barely twenty minutes, it's a tight, punishing introduction to a band worth watching.

Band: Pesta Negra
Album: Finitude
Genre: Blackened Death Metal
Country: Portugal
Label: Independent
Released: September 4, 2026

Peste Negra Artwork

I was only able to check out the single for this ahead of its release so in lue of a reveiw I'll instead share the bands own words on the album and rate it based off the track.

Rising from the underground of Southern Portugal, Peste Negra returns with their devastating second full-length effort, 'Finitude'. Divided into two distinct parts, 'Finitude' delivers raw, new, and uncompromising tracks of pure Deathgrind, combining the technical weight of Death Metal with the relentless velocity of Grindcore. The second half ventures into harsher territory, showcasing industrial remixes of the band's previous works, alongside a remastered edition of the bonus track "Vai-te Foder!".

Band: Svorght
Album: Svart Lerret
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Norway
Label: Attractor Records
Released: August 28, 2026

Svorght Album Artwork

Norwegian atmospheric black metal project Svorght continues to sharpen its frozen craft, hot on the heels of “Evig" with their late 2026 full-length, “Svart Lerret”. Translating to "Black Canvas," the nine-track album strikes a lethal balance between razor-sharp tremolo picking and suffocating ambient yspace. Standout cuts like "Under jorden" and "Skygger av galskap" pair heavy, mid-tempo riffs with layered textures that maintain a raw, gritty edge without sacrificing instrumental clarity. Genuinely hostile low growls anchor the record's crushing atmosphere, while the sprawling titular closer cements “Svart Lerret” as an essential listen for 2026.

Band: Paradogmata
Album: Necrosian Tastings EP
Genre: Blackened Heavy/Death Metal
Country: Norway
Label: Hymns for the End Times
Released: July 24, 2026

Paradogmata Album Artwork

Trondheim’s Paradogmata continue to mutate their extremity on their mid-2026 EP, Necrosian Tastings. Pushing far past the melodic thrash foundations of their early work, this four-track teaser bridges heavy, death, and blackened metal with unexpected folk elements. The centerpiece is their blistering reinterpretation of the traditional Norwegian ballad "Kråkevisa," featuring guest musician Sareeta (ex-Funeral) whose Hardanger fiddle weaves seamlessly through razor-sharp riffs, thrashy grooves, and grim, guttural vocals. By contrasting the folk-infused chaos of "Kråkevisa" against darker, stripped-down renditions and crushing cuts like "Leave the Crippled Behind" and "Maladieu," Paradogmata proves they can pivot from sinister aggression to festive, blackened folk without losing an ounce of bite. It’s a versatile, high-energy teaser that bodes dangerously well for their next era.

Band: Tabernakel
Album: Scheintaufe
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Germany
Label: Iconoclasm Conquest
Released: July 31, 2026

Tabernakel Album Artwork

German solo entity Tabernakel (masterminded by Ignis Nefandus) channels pure mid-90s second-wave worship on its mid-2026 debut full-length, Scheintaufe. Translating to "Mock Baptism," the eight-track effort deliberately bypasses modern studio polish and synth-heavy fluff, offering an unadulterated tribute to the raw, razor-sharp aggression of early Norwegian staples. Standout salvos like "Sanguis" and "Im Nebel" hammer through grim, treble-forward tremolo picking, snapping kick-snare counterpunches, and harsh Teutonic profanity. While longer compositions occasionally linger in atmospheric strumming, Nefandus's spartan "man-and-a-kit" approach captures an undeniable atavistic magic. It’s an unpretentious, grimy slice of old-school black metal that wears its charred influences proudly.
