Introduction
Yr is one of the latest black metal entities to come out of the Oslo scene. What breaks the mold for them is that seemingly the two guys behind this project are not already involved with plenty of other bands, as is often the case. So we have to go in blind on this one.
The band consists of the two main men, Doedskald and Nekrosis, complimented by Ormstungr on bass and Zyak handling the drums when performing live.
Maanelyst
Uncompromising, unrelenting, Norwegian rawness. These are the first words that comes to mind during my virgin journey through this, their debut EP.

Just to establish this early on, Maanelyst is a very strong EP. Considering it’s Yr’s first official output one can only wonder what they can bring to the table in the future. I won’t dissect this track by track, but if you happen to like any of the more known Norwegian bands, specially some of those originating from Bergen, you will most likely nod your head in silent acknowledgement while listening to this. Think Taake rehearsing alongside Gorgoroth, while some of the Helheim guys chime in with some melodies.
This is groovy while never letting their foot too far off the gas pedal.
To give you one track as a good representation of their sound, I’m going for Stormtatt. It has that nice ebb and flow, shifting tempos without loosing any agression.
This being an EP makes you want to repeat it as soon as it’s over, you feel like staying as long as possible in their universe.
Conclusion
This is how you make your presence known within a saturated black metal scene. Agression & rawness with enough hooks to keep you interested throughout all five tracks. Bring me more please!
