Rumination

On Obsolete Human Machine, recent (and newly recommended to me) project Gemynd Beadu presents a paranoid nightmare world where zealot elites have imposed technology onto all mankind in order to strip them of any humanity. An album that seems to meditate on the hopelessness of being a small man in a world where evil forces are constantly trying to destroy them.

I think a big appeal of this to me is the sound and technofuturist theme. For me I  never liked industrial black metal, but this album seems to ruminate on the oncoming technology based existential dread everyone faces in a really unique and interesting way without getting into late 90s eurocringe territory. It’s just a genuinely cold depressing album.

Outside of this, the songwriting and production on the album invokes the same feeling that I used to get from Endless Dismal Moan records. Some of the sounds are so f*cked and weird (drums and vocal effects in particular and some weird noises i can’t make out) that it just oozes a sort of dread thats hard to fake. It also helps that the song and riffs are honestly pretty solid but it just has this thing to it that feels more like a visceral experience rather than a fun horns up metal album you can detach from.

Conclusion

So anyone who reads the sort of stuff i review can see I pretty consistently cover a a lot of post black/atmospheric bands, but I have so much love for one man weirdo bands, It’s like one of the truest purest forms of black metal to me. The feeling of agonising despair and hatred on this album is so tangible you could almost reach out and grab it . It’s a totally undiluted form of singular expression of which Gemynd seems to have a strong, early grasp on.

If you like fcked sh*t check this out.
