Draugaskogur’s Fullmoon Hypnotic Ritual is a shrill, frozen atmosphere. From the very first
track, it feels as if you’re being pulled into a deep, snow-covered forest where time ceases and
shadow reigns.
The overall production of the album harkens back to the earlier days of black metal and is very
reminiscent of Burzum’s Filosofem album in terms of its sound
The guitars are raw but deliberate, droning in waves that feel less like riffs and more like spells
cast in distortion. The drums are relentless, and the vocals are distant and spectral, often
shrieked and sort of got lost within the mix at times.
It’s not flashy or technical. It’s simple, raw black metal. A frozen wasteland enveloped in waves
of dissonance. It’s unapologetic and an unforgiving listen. They’ll be no knees bent to the
modern trends of well polished black metal for Draugaskogur.
Conclusion:
Ruthless and pure. Riffs repeat like chants. Drums march like a pulse buried beneath the earth.
The vocals? Less a voice, more a whisper from somewhere else. The album will surely resonate
with fans of the early raw black metal.
BMZ Rating: 7 – Good: A solid and enjoyable album overall. It boasts strong songwriting and performance quality, delivering a cohesive and satisfying listen.
