Introduction

Slagmaur is a band I have been following for a long time. Allready when Von Rov Shelter was in the works, I was sent ideas and gave my feedback, I believe I was most likely the band’s first fan.
Therefore I was lucky enough to receive a copy months before the album is due to be released. I was both intrigued and sceptical because I worried I would not enjoy it like I have enjoyed their previous releases.
After putting the album on, my fears were instantly put to shame. The first track immediately took me back to Von Rov Shelter with it’s bombastic, intricate, nightmarish hellscapes. And so it continues song after song. This is a new masterpiece, nothing else to say really.

What is interesting about Hulders Ritual however is that half of the record takes me straight back to Von Rov Shelter, while the other half takes on new and interesting dimensions. I hear Burzum inspirations and influences that can only come from Satan himself. Even though the band takes on new directions, it is still as bombastic as before.
The album is as Slagmaur as an album can get and the music is severely hypnotizing. Like other Slagmaur releases, this album requires multiple listens and you will hear new details every single time you put it on.

Another interesting thing is the numerous guest vocalists the band effortlessly include into their madness and it all works so damn well. I fucking love this!
Vocals have been contributed by; Dagur (Mistyrphing), Hoest (Taake, Gorgoroth, Old Mans Child), Wrath (Celestial Bloodshed), Bartholomäus Resch (ArsGoatia), Snorre W. Ruch (Thorns), Doedsadmiral (Nordjevel, Nattverd), Maria L, Dr. Von Hellreich & General Gribbsphiiser.
Think of Von Rov Shelter with better production and a hell of new dimensions and that’s pretty much it.
A very enjoyable listen that will be glued to my playlist the coming months and years.
If you are a fan of Slagmaur, you shall not be disappointed!

Conclusion
The masters of bombastic, symphonic hellscapes have done it again. This is 666% Slagmaur and it made me fall in love with the band all over again. Old but new, dark, gloomy, hypnotic and bombastic as Hell itself. This is the music you will hear when you wander through the Gates of Hades!
BMZ Rating 9.5 out of 10
